Descriptive Cataloging Policy and Procedures

Policy:
In order to accurately and effectively describe materials in the Faust Junior High School library for cataloging purposes, all library holdings should be entered using level 2 descriptions and following the rules for each of the 8 levels as mandated by the most updated edition of the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules.

Procedures:

  1. In accordance with the policy of the Chambersburg Area School District, all books and other items ordered for the library should be pre-processed and cataloged.
  2. In the event that unprocessed items are acquired through donations, book fairs, or other means, use Destiny to find the cataloging information. Make any enhancements that meet the needs of the library patrons, and print the bar code.
  3. If cataloging information is not in Destiny, use the examples below to create catalog entries. These simple examples for books and video recordings are based on the level 2 descriptions in the current edition of AACR2.
