Collection Arrangement

The Faust library collection should be arranged in the following manner:
Fiction:
The fiction books should be arranged alphabetically staring with the As and ending with the Zs.Project_019.jpgAll of the fiction books should be housed together.
Paperback:The paperback collection should start on the next available top shelf after the fiction section and should start with the As and end with the Zs. Short Story Collection: The short stories should start on the next available top shelf after the paperbacks and should start with the As and end with the Zs.

Graphic Novels:
Project_022.jpgThe Graphic Novels have the same call numbers, GN, but still have an arrangement scheme amongst the books. The Manga books are arranged alphabetically by title and all the series are kept together. The non-Manga books are arranged in file cases by series. All of the DC comics, marvel comics, etc. are kept together. Also, all of the historical comic books and educational comic books are also kept together. Finally, all the miscellaneous comics are together. Note: At this time there are no spine labels or shelf labels designating the various graphic novel areas, because this was a trial run to see how this arrangement would work. Previously, graphic novels were located at various spots in the library, but the collection has gotten so large that the graphic novels were becoming hard to find.

Non-Fiction:

external image clip_image005.gif-The non-fiction section is arranged first by the lowest DDC number 000 to the highest DDC number 999.999 and then within the DDProject_023.jpgC numbers the books are arranged alphabetically by the author’s last name. In addition, the collection biographies and biographies are also arranged within the non-fiction section where the 920s start.
Reference:
The reference section is arranged between the non-fiction section and the classroom area. The reference starts with the lowest DDC number and goes to the highest number. Then it is classified alphabetically by the title of the book.

General Encyclopedias:
Project_028.jpgThe general encyclopedias are kept on the back wall in the classroom area. 031 and the first three letters of the title arrange them. These books are not classified with the rest of the reference primarily for teaching purposes. This helps the students have easier access to the general encyclopedias when they come into the library with their classes and also helps them to remember that they need to cite these differently then other types of books or multi-volume books.
Professional Development
The professional development section is located in the classroom area along back wall. It is arranged by lowest DDC number to Project_032.jpghighest DDC number and then is arranged alphabetically by author’s last name. It is kept in the back by the classroom area so that all the teachers and librarians have access to the collection, but so that it is kept away from the student’s books.
Local History:
Project_031.jpgThe local history books are kept next to the professional development section. These books are non-circulating books. They are arranged by lowest DDC number to highest DDC number and then alphabetically.

Periodicals:
Magazines:
Project_021.jpgThe current magazines are kept in the reading area of the library and arranged alphabetically by titles. Once the newer magazines come in the older magazines are kept in the office in file cases. The older magazines are arranged alphabetically by title. The older magazines are kept for one year and discarded/donated to classrooms at the beginning of every school year.Project_033.jpg
Professional Journals:
The professional journals are kept in the classroom section of the library next to the general encyclopedias and are arranged alphabetically by title.
Newspapers:
The daily newspaper is placed on a rod and displayed in the reading area of the library. Each school day the newspapers are replaced with the current edition. The old newspapers are kept on a shelf in one of the library storage rooms. The old newspapers are kept for approximately one month and are donated to classrooms/recycled.

AV:
